Motorcycle Insurance - Features

Optional or Added Equipment

Covers aftermarket items like crash bars, custom seats, sissy bars, windshields and more. With every Allstate Motorcycle policy, $1,000 worth of coverage is included when you purchase Comprehensive Coverage. You can also purchase up to an additional $30,000 of coverage to help protect optional equipment you've added to your bike.

Towing and Labor Costs

If your bike breaks down or you're in an accident, don't worry about the cost of getting it home or to the shop. It's also available for all other bikes at an additional cost.

Rental Reimbursement

If you purchase this coverage and your motorcycle is damaged or stolen, we'll help cover the cost of renting an automobile.

First Accident Waiver

Accidents happen. That's why we provide First Accident Forgiveness as part of our motorcycle policy offering. An accident will be considered for waiver if:

  • It is the only chargeable accident with any motorcycle in 48 months.
  • Policy has been in effect with Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Company for 48 months.
  • The driver and motorcycle was listed on the policy when the accident occurred. No major violation occurred concurrent with the accident

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need coverage for aftermarket parts?

Yes. When you upgrade your bike, you're increasing its value. You want your insurance to keep up. If you add less than $1,000 of custom parts, you're automatically covered with Allstate's Comprehensive and Collision Coverage. If it's more than that, you can get up to an additional $30,000 of coverage.

Can I rent a bike to get around after an accident?

No. But you can rent a car if you purchase Rental Reimbursement coverage and your bike is damaged or stolen. Allstate will help cover the cost.

Will my rates skyrocket if I get in an accident?

If you've been a customer of Allstate for 4 or more years, you've got First Accident Waiver. It will keep your rates from going up just because of an accident.

Am I covered if I cause an accident?

You should be. Allstate's Liability Coverage typically provides protection for damages that you are legally obligated to pay to others, within policy limits.

Is my passenger covered?

Yes. If the passenger is a family member who lives at your address, they are covered by Allstate's Medical Payments Coverage. All other passengers are covered by Guest Passenger Liability.

Am I covered if my bike is stolen or vandalized?

Comprehensive Coverage helps pay for covered damages resulting from a loss other than a collision, within policy limits. These include: flood, wind, theft and vandalism.

Am I covered if I wreck with an uninsured motorist?

In the states where it applies, Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage will typically pay for damage to your bike caused by an uninsured motorist.

Am I covered out of state?

Allstate motorcycle insurance helps protect you in all of the lower 48. And if you can get there, the other two as well.

Am I covered in Canada or Mexico?

Canada, yes. Mexico, yes—covered within policy limits and only up to a certain mileage.

Can I turn coverage off temporarily during the winter?

No. We don't offer a 'lay-up' option. But your rates do account for seasonality of your state - providing low rates year round. This keeps you ready to ride when that unseasonably warm winter day rolls around.

Am I covered if my friend wrecks my bike?

Allstate motorcycle insurance will help protect your bike within policy limits no matter who wrecks it unless it was damaged from an excluded activity.

Does my car driving record affect my motorcycle policy rates?

Yes. Even though riding on four wheels can never be compared to the freedom of riding on two, everything on your motor vehicle record is used to get your motorcycle rate.

I own several bikes. Do you offer a discount if I insure several of them together?

Yes. Bike fanatics deserve a fanatical discount. You can save up to 35% when you insure multiple motorcycles on the same policy.

I don't ride during the winter months. Why do I need a 12-month policy?

All rates take into consideration how bad your region’s winter is. Shorter riding seasons can get lower rates. That’s good, because no one wants to miss a ride on that freakish 50-degree day in January.

Tips on Riding

  • Never ride your motorcycle without your helmet. Make sure it fits securely and has a DOT label, which symbolizes compliance with federal safety standards.
  • Take a motorcycle rider-training class.
  • Know the limitations of your motorcycle.
  • Don't speed.
  • Never tailgate other vehicles.
  • Use your signals. Learn the hand signals for turning, stopping and slowing down just in case your bike's signals ever malfunction.
  • Respect other drivers. Avoid weaving through traffic and driving on the shoulder.
  • Be visible. Be visible. Be visible.
  • Avoid riding in blind spots and always use your headlights.
  • Brake safely. Use both brakes at the same time.

Before You Hit The Road Checklist

  • Test your lights, brakes, turn signals and horn.
  • Check the oil and fuel levels.
  • Check tires for any punctures or slick spots.
  • Make sure your mirrors are positioned correctly.
  • Make sure your cables are not worn or frayed.
  • Lubricate and adjust the chain as recommended by the manufacturer.

What To Wear

  • Protective Eyewear. Find a high quality helmet with a face shield, goggles or glasses with plastic/safety lens so you can always see the road clearly.
  • Jacket and Pants. Wear safe, durable materials including leather or synthetics that are full length and fit to size. Color is also important. Vibrant colors and reflective materials are more easily seen on the road.
  • Gloves. Choose durable, non-slip leather gloves that fit your hands well.
  • Shoes. Wear leather boots or durable sneakers that cover your ankles.

Common Motorcycle Accidents

  • Other motorists not seeing you. You're smaller than they are, and you're twenty-seven times more likely to die in a collision than they are. So be visible.
  • Potholes. You can curse bad roadways all you want, but in the end, it's up to you to avoid obstacles in your way.
  • Speeding. Sure, it's fun to rip down the road. But every mile an hour over the speed limit you go increases the odds of an ugly outcome.
  • Inexperience. Know the limitations of your bike before you get out there with the big boys. Rush hour is not the time to learn that you don't know what you're doing.
  • Over braking. If you lock up your front wheel when braking, you've just sacrificed your ability to steer. Hopefully, that'll be the only thing you sacrifice.
  • Running wide on a turn. Obvious, really. The road is the safest place to be. The shoulder is where telephone poles, mailboxes and little white crosses live.
